As we mentioned on this blog previously: even as vaccines roll out, COVID-19 tests continue to be important. If you plan to get a test, you can prepare so that you have a smooth experience.
If you are getting the test in person, a practical consideration is to make sure your phone is charged. The testing site may ask that you wait outside until you are contacted, or they may use your phone to let you know of any updates.
Many testing sites, such as Avalon Laboratory Solutions, offer drive-through testing. If you are getting a drive-in test, another practical consideration is to make sure your car has enough gas. You may be asked to wait in your vehicle until it is your turn. Some days and times are busier than others, so it’s important to be prepared to wait.
When you get an in-person test, you should bring a mask, as well as your license and insurance information. Also remember to bring a referral from your doctor, if that is requested from the site.
You might have heard that the swab goes far up into your nose, and be afraid to get tested. Firstly, not every test is this type of swab; we’ve listed the different administration methods here.
Still, that is a common method. Keep in mind that while that test can be slightly uncomfortable, it does not cause significant pain and only lasts a few seconds. When it’s over, you’ll know that you took measures to keep yourself, your loved ones, and your community safe.
Everyone’s availability is different, which is why there is no one-size-fits-all method for COVID-19 testing. At Avalon Lab Solutions, we can schedule you immediately to be tested in two different ways: through drive-in testing at our lab, or an at-home test. In both cases, you’ll receive results within 48 hours.
